Medical Scholars

Am I eligible to apply?

The Med Scholar track is designed for applicants who…

  • Are enrolled in medical school OR intending to attend in the upcoming Fall semester and have been in a full time degree program within the preceding 12 months

  • Live in/near Houston, Texas OR are willing to relocate (for the 10 week summer program only)

  • Have a bachelor’s degree OR are currently in school and on track to graduate by spring

  • Are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Additionally, you are strongly encouraged to apply if you are…

  • A first-generation college graduate

  • From a low-income household

  • From a low-resourced community

What do I need to apply?

You will need…

  • Official transcripts

  • CV or resume

  • A complete CATALYST application

  • Statement of research experience and interest(s)

  • Two letters of recommendation

Graduate Scholars

Am I eligible to apply?

The Grad Scholar track is designed for applicants who…

  • Are full-time doctoral students (any year)

  • Are in counseling psychology, clinical psychology, social work, or similar degree program

  • Live in/near Houston, Texas and can work onsite at MD Anderson Cancer Center

  • Are NOT employed >10 hours a week OR are willing to relinquish the position in order to participate

  • Are U.S. citizens or permanent residents

Additionally, you are strongly encouraged to apply if you are…

  • A first-generation college graduate

  • From a low-income household

  • From a low-resourced community

When will I hear back?

After email submission, a confirmation of receipt and the application decision date will be emailed within 2 business days

Finalists will be invited for a video conference interview. Acceptance or waitlist decisions will be conveyed via email within 1-2 weeks after the interview.

What do I need to apply?

You will need…

  • Statement of purpose​

    • Up to a 3-page description (excluding references) of your education and research background, research/career interests, professional goals, and fit with the STRONGER Scholar program. Explain how this program will help you meet your goals. 

  • Mentor priority form

    • ​Rank order of 3-5 potential mentors HERE. 

  • ​CV

  • Unofficial university transcript

  • ​Demographic information form HERE

  • Two letters of recommendation using THIS standardized form, emailed directly by the recommender

    • 1 letter should be completed by the applicant’s major professor/advisor.
